Cell biology meets Hollywood animation

Biologist Janet Iwasa spent three months in Hollywood studying animation. It’s paying off. Check out her stunning visualization of the molecular events that allow HIV to invade the immune system’s T cells, which earned a shoutout from NIH director Francis S. Collins this week. Iwasa is a research assistant professor in the biochemistry department at the University of Utah, where I work as a science writer.
