The bee wolves

Wasps in the genus Philanthus are commonly known as bee wolves because most species in this genus capture bees and feed them to their carnivorous larvae.

The adult wasps prefer a less meaty diet. They eat nectar. The name of the genus, in fact, comes from the Greek φιλεω (“I love”) and άνθος (“a flower”).
